Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he enjoyed playing various card games when he was young. He found himself getting very competitive in the above-mentioned card games while playing his dad. After finishing high school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little while and headed to New York to compete in some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were difficult as he played many hours and lost most times. He made some extra money by being an runner for the poker players. He believed he could improve his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more rest and concentrate even more on the game.

The real improvement in his game began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would often challenge one another. He had access into a few of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would tweak his logical thinking skills. He used these strategy ideas in the game of No-Limit holdem.

Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the greatest female players the poker arena today. Howard relocated to Sin City in 1993 and competed in cash games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
