Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
